95 per cent of clients use Mynt: “Now we can focus on advisory work”

Less admin, more business value. Read the interview with the founder of Sergao.

Accounting firm Sergao has been digital from day one. Today, 95 per cent of its clients use Mynt, and receipt management is almost entirely automated. For founder Samir Ouangar, it’s all about freeing up time for what really makes a difference to clients.
The files arrived in batches. Screenshots of invoices, photographed receipts and PDFs from IT suppliers, all gathered in a shared Drive folder. Each file had to be opened, interpreted, imported and coded to the right account. For many accounting firms, that’s everyday life. For Sergao, it was the exception.

A firm built for a different way of working
When Samir Ouangar founded Sergao, there were no old routines to change. The firm was built on a digital philosophy from the start, and it has shaped both how the firm works and the advice it gives its clients.
– When we take on a new client, especially a start-up, we usually show them how we work. With a smart business system and Mynt for cards and receipts, they get a good digital foundation from the start, and that makes things easier for everyone. We’ve grown from one to five employees in a year. That’s largely because clients appreciate the way we work, says Samir Ouangar, CEO and founder of Sergao.
But not every business has made the switch yet. Samir still sometimes meets clients whose receipts arrive as PDFs in a Drive folder.
Screenshots, PDFs and a hesitant client
The client behind the folder bought a lot of IT services and had long used the bank’s corporate card. It worked, but every month it took manual effort.
– It took a lot of time, for us and for the client. Time we’d much rather have spent helping them with their business.
At first, the client was hesitant to switch. After all, the bank card worked, and it’s understandable not to want to change things unnecessarily. Eventually, they decided to give Mynt a try. It wasn’t long before the folder stopped filling up. Receipts were automatically matched to the right purchases, coded and sent straight to the books.
– It was so much smoother. The client noticed the difference straight away, and so did we.

Fewer reminders, better conversations
What changed most, though, wasn’t the time spent. It was the collaboration. Previously, it was the firm that had to chase missing documentation or ask what a purchase was for. Since Sergao began making more use of Mynt’s AI features, the expense policy handles much of that. The system flags purchases that are missing a receipt, have the wrong documentation or don’t follow the company’s own rules.
– It’s a relief for both sides. The client gets a reminder directly in the system, and we can spend our conversations on things that actually help them move forward.
Samir Ouangar also values having easy-to-reach support in Swedish when questions come up, both for the firm and its clients.
– The smarter our systems get, the more time we and our clients save. Then everyone can spend their time on what actually creates value.

The accountant of the future is an adviser
Samir Ouangar believes the whole industry is heading in the same direction.
– In a few years, the most routine parts of bookkeeping will be automated. There will still be a need for accountants, but the role is changing. Now we can focus more on advisory work: explaining what the figures mean and how clients can use them.
